The past year delivered a number of exceptional results on the numismatic auction market. An overview of the most significant sales was published by Art+, a respected auction news platform focusing on in-depth analysis of the art and collectors’ markets.

The most expensive coin sales of the year
As noted in the article by Jan Viduna, the most successful auction house in terms of top-priced coin sales last year was Macho & Chlapovič, clearly outperforming all other Czech auction houses.
One of the key findings highlighted by Art+ is that all coins achieving prices above CZK 4 million were auctioned by Macho & Chlapovič. This result confirms the auction house’s long-term focus on top-tier numismatic material and its ability to work with exceptional private collections.

Gold coins leading the market
As expected, gold coins achieved the highest prices and continue to form the backbone of the most important auction results. At the same time, the year also brought strong prices for silver coins and issues struck in base metals, reflecting growing collector interest across a broad range of historically significant material.
The Jaroslav Kokolus collection and Habsburg coinage
A major impact on the year’s auction results came from the sixth part of the dispersal of the outstanding Jaroslav Kokolus collection, which dominated sales in the first half of the year.
In the second half of the year, the strongest results were driven primarily by unique gold coins from the Habsburg period, complemented by highly sought-after Czechoslovak St. Wenceslas ducats.

Collector trust as a decisive factor
These results underline not only the strength of high-quality auction material, but above all the confidence of collectors and consignors, who continue to entrust Macho & Chlapovič with presenting their coins to an international audience.
