FAQ
Auction - for sellers
How can I sell my coins, medals, and banknotes through an auction?
You can bring your items in person or send them by post or courier. We recommend starting by emailing photos and a brief description to info@machochlapovic.com. Our specialist team will make a preliminary assessment and then agree the next steps with you.
If your items are accepted for auction, we provide a complete end-to-end service — from receipt, expert processing, photography, and catalogue presentation through to the successful sale and payment of the proceeds to your bank account or in cash.
Until when can I send coins, medals, and banknotes for the next auction?
We accept consignments year-round. The cut-off for inclusion in the next auction is typically 2–3 months before the auction date.
You can find current deadlines and instructions on the Auction Consignments page or contact us at info@machochlapovic.com.
What contract do I sign when consigning coins, medals, and banknotes to the auction?
When we receive your items, we sign a Consignment Agreement that sets out all terms of cooperation — including the seller’s commission, settlement method, and the itemized list of lots.
The agreement is executed in two original copies; you keep one. Only after signing do the items enter the auction process.
Jsou moje mince, medaile a bankovky automaticky zařazeny do aukce po podpisu Komisionářské dohody?
No. Signing the agreement admits your coins, medals, and banknotes into the auction process, but inclusion in a specific sale is approved by the auction house’s auction manager based on expert assessment. You will be notified in writing whether they are included or not.
How does the auction process work?
After receipt and expert assessment, your consigned property is photographed and described, and formed into lots for the printed and online auction catalogue.
We run two formats: saleroom auctions and eLive auctions.
- In saleroom auctions you can bid in person, by phone, by limit bid (enter your maximum in advance), or live online in real time via the AUEX bidding platform.
- In eLive auctions you bid by limit or live online via AUEX.
After the auction, we settle and pay the consignor (once buyers’ payments are received).
How is the security of coins, medals, and banknotes ensured throughout the entire auction process?
Once consigned, all coins, medals, and banknotes are insured and stored in secure vaults. We handle each lot with maximum care — from intake, inventory, professional photography and cataloguing to making it available to bidders and finally releasing it to the new owner.
The entire process is overseen by our specialist team with long-standing experience in numismatics and auction sales.
Do I need to provide photos of coins, medals, and banknotes?
No. We will photograph your consigned property professionally in our studio.
If you have provenance details, previous photos, or other information, feel free to include them — they help with cataloguing and presenting the lot(s).
How is the starting price determined?
We propose the starting price of coins, medals, and banknotes based on expert assessment, historical auction results, and current market prices.
The goal is to reflect the lot’s value while encouraging strong bidder interest.
When and how will I be paid for sold coins, medals, and banknotes?
After a sale in the auction or post-auction sale, we will send you a written settlement and then pay the proceeds — either by bank transfer or, by arrangement, in cash at our branch (in compliance with applicable cash-payment regulations).
Settlement is completed no later than 60 days from the sale date.
What are the commission terms for auction sales?
The commission rate depends on the type, value, and method of sale of the coins, medals, or banknotes.
All terms are agreed individually and set out in the Consignment Agreement, which you sign when handing over the lots.
Can I withdraw a lot from the auction?
After signing the consignment agreement and delivering the property, lots cannot be unilaterally withdrawn without breaching the terms. In case of an early return request, the auction house may be entitled to a contractual penalty.
Please consider this carefully before deciding to sell via auction.
Can I consign if I’m not a collector and don’t know the value?
Yes. If you own coins, medals, or banknotes and are unsure of their value, feel free to contact us.
Our team will provide a professional assessment and recommend the best selling method — no specialist knowledge required.
Can my coins, medals, and banknotes be combined into a single lot?
Yes. For coins, medals, or banknotes of lower value (under €50), the auction house may decide to group them into a single lot to facilitate inclusion in the auction and ensure a more efficient sale.
What if my coin, medal, or banknote is not included in the auction?
If a coin, medal, or banknote does not meet the criteria (e.g., due to authenticity concerns or other reasons), we reserve the right not to include it. We will inform you and propose appropriate alternatives — such as direct purchase, another sales channel, or return of the lot (especially where authenticity remains in doubt).

Is auction registration required?
Yes—registration is required for all bidding methods. It ensures identity verification and a transparent auction process.
- Floor auctions (in person): register on site before the auction starts or during the event (we recommend arriving early).
- Online/eLive & pre-bids (AUEX): register in advance via AUEX, at least 24 hours before the auction start.
- Phone bidding: please contact us in advance; we’ll complete registration and ID checks at least 24 hours before the auction.
Bidding is not possible without completed registration.
Can’t complete your registration? Here’s what to do:
- Check the URL: registration is done exclusively on our AUEX auction platform (not via the main machochlapovic.com site).
- Try basic troubleshooting: refresh the page or try a different browser.
- Contact us: if the issue persists, email info@machochlapovic.com or call us — we’ll help verify your account settings and any required verification steps.
Why is identity verification required for online registration?
When accessing our auction platform online, identity verification is mandatory for security reasons and to meet KYC/AML legal requirements (identifying and verifying the client is a core part of customer due diligence in the EU).
We perform identity verification via the trusted provider Stripe Identity. The entire process is online and typically takes only a few minutes.
If you attend a floor auction in person, your identity will be checked on site during registration.
How does identity verification work?
During registration (or later if the system requests it), you’ll complete online verification via our trusted partner Stripe Identity. The process is fully digital, usually takes just a few minutes, and is easy to do on your phone. It verifies a valid government ID and performs a brief selfie/liveness check to confirm the document belongs to you.
What you’ll need
- A valid ID document (national ID card or passport).
- A phone with a camera (or a computer with a webcam) and a stable internet connection.
- Good lighting and a clearly visible face (no sunglasses/masks) so the system can match your selfie.
Step-by-step
- In registration, click the link to start identity verification.
- Scan/photograph your ID (front + back if required).
- Take a selfie following the on-screen prompts (liveness check).
- The system compares the data automatically; results usually arrive within minutes.
Without successful verification, you can’t participate in the auction.
Tips for a smooth experience
- Use a smartphone and natural light; avoid glare on the ID.
- Make sure your name and date of birth are readable and the document isn’t damaged.
- If prompted to retake a shot, that’s normal (blurry/underexposed image).
(Stripe Identity is a Stripe service that verifies IDs and selfies in over 100 countries and is used worldwide; as a result, the process is fast and reliable.)
What if I don’t have a smartphone or face a technical issue during online registration?
If you’re unable to complete online identity verification, we’ll arrange an alternative method—remotely or in person at our branch (Bratislava / Prague). We’re also happy to help with registration or AUEX login issues.

What is the standard credit limit and how can I increase it?
Every registered client is granted a default credit limit of EUR 10,000. If you intend to bid at higher amounts, please contact us in advance.
To raise the limit, we may request supporting documents—such as references or proof of financial standing—in line with KYC/AML requirements.
Your credit limit is the maximum amount you can bid cumulatively in online auctions—it covers both live online bids and pre-set absentee bids (the sum of your active bids).
How does the online auction of coins, medals, or banknotes work via the AUEX platform?
Our AUEX online platform enables convenient real-time bidding from anywhere—whether during a floor auctionstreamed online or an eLive auction held exclusively on the internet. Log in to your account, follow the live bidding round and bid with a click; or place a pre-bid in advance, which the system will automatically execute up to your maximum.
How to – at a glance:
- Log in / create an account on AUEX: machochlapovic.auex.de (at least 24 hours before the auction start).
- Check your profile and credit limit (standard €10,000; higher limits can be approved on request).
- Complete identity verification (if prompted). Without verification, bidding isn’t possible.
- Bid live or place a pre-bid in advance—for both floor and eLive auctions.
How does telephone bidding work in a floor auction?
We offer telephone bidding for floor auctions. Our team will call you before the selected lot, relay the current price throughout, and place bids on your instructions.
For operational reasons, please request telephone bidding in advance (at least 24 hours before the auction starts).
How do I place my limit (pre-bid) for individual coins, medals or banknotes?
You can submit an absentee bid in two ways:
- Via the AUEX online platform — in your account, open the auction, select the lot and enter your maximum bid. You can sign in to the auction HERE.
- By email — send the lot number, title/description, your maximum bid and contact details to info@machochlapovic.com.
Deadline: at least 24 hours before the auction starts. Once the auction is live, bids can’t be added or changed.
How the limit is applied: the system (or the floor auctioneer) bids on your behalf, step-by-step, up to your maximum.
Tie-break rule: if multiple bidders have the same increment, the absentee (pre-bid) takes precedence over both floor and online bids.
Can I modify or cancel my absentee (pre-bid) before the auction starts?
Before the auction, you may only increase your absentee bid. Once submitted, it cannot be lowered or cancelled. After the auction starts, bids cannot be altered.
Please request any increase at least 24 hours before the auction begins.
Which bid has priority when amounts are equal?
- An advance absentee bid (pre-bid) takes precedence, at the same amount, over an identical live bid from the floor or the internet.
- Between identical live bids, the floor has priority over online.
- If two pre-bids are identical, the earlier submission time (timestamp in AUEX) prevails.
What is a “cut bid” and how does it work?
A “cut bid” is the final bid you may place on a given coin, medal or banknote—it is a half-increment bid (½ of the current bid). After using a cut bid, you cannot place any further bids on that lot (floor or online). We allow at most one cut per lot.
When and where can I view coins, medals and banknotes before the auction?
Viewing days are scheduled in advance (typically in Prague and at the venue before the sale starts). You’ll always find the current dates and locations on the Auctions page. Please book your viewing slot in advance by email or phone.

Can I get recommendations on which coins, medals or banknotes to focus on?
Yes. We’ll review the auction catalogue with you and, based on your goals (investment, rarities, thematic collection), suggest suitable items and highlight noteworthy lots.
When will I receive my invoice?
Invoices are issued after the final eLive session of the auction has concluded.
If you need your invoice earlier (e.g., for payment/accounting), please email andrej.macho@machochlapovic.com and we’ll do our best to provide it in advance.
How do I pay for the lots I’ve won?
Payment deadline: within 7 days of receiving the invoice.
Accepted methods:
- Bank transfer (details on your invoice).
- Cash at our branch or at the floor-auction venue, in accordance with applicable legislation on cash payments.
Card payments are not available.
How does the pickup/collection of auctioned coins, medals, and banknotes work?
After paying the invoice:
- you can collect the lots in person — please arrange the date and availability by phone in advance; when collecting, present an ID document (if another person collects, bring a power of attorney),
- or request delivery to a chosen address — parcels are packed securely, are insured, and include tracking. Delivery terms (method, insurance, price, timing, and, if applicable, an export permit) will be agreed with you individually; shipping costs are paid by the client.
Consolidation of shipments: If you purchased in both the floor and the eLive parts of the same auction, we will combine everything into a single shipment — you pay only one postage fee.
Notice: The client is obliged to collect the lots (or arrange delivery) within 10 days from the end of the auction, unless individually agreed otherwise.
Is participation in the auction binding?
Yes. Auction participation is binding. When the hammer falls, a binding contract arises between the successful bidder and the auction house/consignor: the bidder must pay the hammer price (plus buyer’s premium and any applicable fees) and collect the purchased coins, medals, or banknotes within the stated period. Failure to pay or collect constitutes a breach; the auction house may rescind the sale, claim damages/default interest, or restrict future participation. This is standard across auction terms and conditions.
