Note
Portrait for this election medal of Francis I of Lorraine was made by N. v. Swinderen by a contemporary copperplate from the coronation diary (18x30cm). The copperplate was made by Johann Wilhelm Windter (1696-1765) according to the painting by Franz Lippold (1688-1768). The portrait transfered into metal is different from its copperplate sample in wig design and mainly the coat design, which is not covered by the Order of the Golden Fleece in the medal. Design of the reverse die was also based on the above-mentioned copperplate - as addition of the coronation jewels placed on a pillow there is a hexagonal table with a tablecloth. The copperplate is located in Historisches Museum Frankfurt am Main, Graphische Sammlung C. 13882. - s. Forschner Gisela, Die Medaille als Historische Quelle, Money Trend 9/88
