    The Perth Mint Australia

The Perth Mint, based in Perth, is Australia’s national mint. The history of The Perth Mint dates back to the Australian gold rush of the late 19th century.

At that time, it was established as one of the three Australian branches of The Royal Mint. Its original purpose was to process gold from the rich deposits of Western Australia and to mint coins for the British Empire. Over time, The Perth Mint became one of the world’s most prestigious producers of gold, silver, and platinum, including renowned bullion coins such as the Kangaroo and Kookaburra series. Today, the mint is owned and operated by the Government of Western Australia, which guarantees the quality and purity of its precious metal products.

The Perth Mint is also well known for its innovations in bullion coin minting. In 2012, it issued the world’s first coin featuring a holographic 3D effect. It is one of the few mints globally to offer fully integrated services, ranging from mining and refining to the final distribution of products. With its long-standing history, reputation for quality, and commitment to innovation, The Perth Mint remains one of the most important players in the global investment gold and silver market.

    Lunar series Gold Bullion Coins

The Perth Mint, a renowned Australian mint, is well known for its Lunar Series of gold investment coins, which celebrate the Chinese lunar calendar. This series is particularly popular among investors and collectors worldwidethanks to its beautiful designshigh precious metal purity, and limited mintages.

The Chinese lunar calendar follows a 12-year cycle, with each year associated with a specific animal. The Perth Mint Lunar gold investment series features these animals in the traditional order of the Chinese zodiac: Mouse (Rat), Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. Each year, The Perth Mint releases a new coin featuring the animal corresponding to the current lunar year.

The Lunar Series is available in both investment gold and investment silver, with each coin struck from metal of 99.99% purity. Gold coins are issued in a variety of sizes, offering options to suit different investment needs and budgets.

    Coin Design

Each investment coin in the series features a unique depiction of the animal of the given year on one side, while the other side bears a portrait of the British monarch. Until 2022, the portrait depicted Queen Elizabeth II; from 2023 onwards, it features King Charles III. In addition to the portrait, the obverse includes the inscription “ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA” (or “CHARLES III AUSTRALIA” on newer issues).

Gold coins also display the weightyear of issue, and face value. One of the most attractive aspects of the Lunar Series is that each year introduces a new design, meaning that no two coins are the same. This adds significant appeal for collectors of investment gold and may also enhance the long-term value of the coins.
