Münze Österreich, also known as the Austrian Mint, is one of the oldest and most prominent players in international minting. With over 800 years of history, this mint is a proud guardian of coinage and a treasury of European and Austrian heritage.

The headquarters of Münze Österreich, the Austrian Mint, is located in the Austrian capital of Vienna. Its origins date back to 1194 when Richard I, also known as Richard the Lionheart, paid a ransom of 100,000 marks of silver to the Austrian Duke Leopold V. Half of this silver was then used to mint new coins, marking the beginning of the Austrian Mint's history. Since its foundation, it has undergone numerous changes and developments to become one of the most renowned mints in the world, with a rich history and tradition.

One of the most famous products of Münze Österreich is the Vienna Philharmonic coin series. These coins, available in gold, silver, and platinum versions, are among the best-selling investment coins globally. The Philharmonic coins are cherished for their high-quality minting and beautiful design, which celebrates the music and culture of Vienna. Münze Österreich is known for its high-quality and precise coins, crafted using traditional methods. Coins produced by the Austrian Mint hold international prestige and are sought after by collectors, investors, and numismatists worldwide.

Franz Joseph I - restrikes Investment Gold Coins

The gold coins of Franz Joseph I were minted during his reign when he ruled as the Austrian Emperor and the King of Hungary and Bohemia, although he was never crowned as the King of Bohemia. Gold coins bearing his likeness were minted even after his death, with the minting years on these coins remaining unchanged (for example, the year 1915 on the ducat and the 4-ducat coins).

Today, they are produced as re-strikes—investment gold coins that are highly popular among investors. They are often considered some of the best investment coins available, as they combine historical value with the intrinsic value of gold.

    COIN DESIGN:

The obverse of the coin features a portrait of Emperor Franz Joseph I, facing right, with the inscription "FRANC IOS I D G AVSTRIAE IMPERATOR," which translates to "Franz Joseph I, by the grace of God, Emperor of Austria." The reverse side of the coin displays the Austrian coat of arms—a double-headed eagle—with the inscription "LOD ILL REX A A 1915 HVNGAR BOHEM GAL," representing his titles as King of Hungary, Bohemia, and Galicia.
