Note
The spectacular medal was awarded to officers who had distinguished themselves in the Battle of Lowestoft, the first major naval engagement of the Second Anglo-Dutch War. It was later awarded to men who had distinguished themselves in later naval battles during the reign of Charles II. Surviving specimens in gold weighing 20 guineas (without the mount) and awarded to officers of the rank of Captain and above are extremely rare, with no more than five known. Graffiti on the obverse.
