The coat of arms with a crowned lion with claws is topped by a count's crown and decorated with a pearl circle, a number embossed to the left of the shield and a contoured border around the entire circumference. On the reverse is a phoenix with outstretched wings, emerging from flames. On its chest is the coat of arms and above its head is the arch of a bishop's crosier, surrounded by a contoured border. The phoenix with crosier and motto is the original coat of arms of the Chapter of St. Bavo. The medal is embossed with the number 3.
