5 Eur 2024 - Zubor hrivnatý
Zubor is the largest European land mammal. Its shape resembles cattle. The head is relatively short, rounded, the body and tail are covered with brown fur. The front part of the body is more massive than the back. It is also highlighted by the fur, which is elongated on the front part of the body. Strong and hollow horns are characteristic of both sexes. They are permanent and grow over the years. It is active mainly in the dark, for which its vision is also adapted. Of the senses, hearing and smell are the best developed. It lives for approximately 35 years. Zubor is a social animal, usually only older males live alone. It is typical to live in herds of 8 to 13 pieces. Bison feed mainly on green and woody parts of plants, branches, bark and leaves. They prefer younger forest stands with rich undergrowth. In winter, their basic food is blackberry, tree bark, brush and dry grass, which they dig out from under the snow. The original area of the bison extended almost throughout Europe. Today, in Slovakia, approximately 70 individuals of the wild bison live in the displaced part of the Poloniny National Park.
